With the Holiday’s fast approaching, here is a list of the top activities happening on the North Shore to get you in the holiday spirit!
The Shipyards Christmas Festival
When: December 1st, 2018 from 4-7 pm
Where: Shipbuilder’s Square – Wallace Mews Road, North Vancouver
The North Vancouver Christmas festival kicks off the holiday season in the City! The Shipyards will be transformed into a winter wonderland filled with music and twinkling lights. This family-friendly event has lots of free activities. Enjoy ornament/lantern making, storytime, gingerbread decorating, balloon creations and face painting. The Mayor will officially light the City’s Christmas tree at 4pm. and Mrs. Claus will stop by for a visit and photos. New this year, Winter Artisan Market in the Pipe Shop from 3-9pm + Pony rides for kids.
When: November 22nd, 2018 to January 27th, 2019 from 4-9 pm
Where: Capilano Suspension Bridge and Park
Capilano Suspension Bridge’s annual holiday tradition Canyon Lights is a must-see holiday event for all ages. You will be dazzled by thousands of magical lights twinkling across the Suspension Bridge, Treetops Adventure, Cliffwalk and throughout the park. You will also see the world’s tallest living Christmas tree — 153 feet tall and still growing! Canyon Lights includes: admission to the park, a Snowy Owl Prowl, gingerbread cookie decorating, make your own Christmas card (by donation) in the Winter Pavilion and sing-a-long carols with the Christmas band.
Peak of Christmas
When: November 23rd, 2018 – January 6th, 2019
Where: Grouse Mountain, North Vancouver
Experience the magic of the season at The Peak of Christmas on Grouse Mountain. Come see how the Elves have transformed Grouse Mountain into a North Pole Experience. Enjoy fun family-friendly activities in the Chalet and watch classic Christmas movies on the big screen in the mountaintop theatre. Or head outside go for a mountaintop sleigh ride or bring your skates and enjoy the outdoor skating pond. Skate rentals are available.
Holiday Hi-Light Festival
When: November 30th, 2018 – December 31st, 2018
Where: Park & Tilford Gardens, North Vancouver
Park & Tilford is set to light up the season with the 30th annual Holiday Hi-Light Festival at Park & Tilford Gardens. This annual event features a majestic festival of lights with over 150,000 on display over 3 acres. The lights turn are on between 5pm-9pm daily between December 1st and December 31st. Entry is by donation with proceeds going to support the North Vancouver firefighters, and their various appointed charities. The opening Light Up festivities begin around 6:30pm, with hot chocolate, live entertainment and a Light Up countdown to be enjoyed by all! Every Friday evening during the month of December is dedicated to families! From 5:30pm – 9:00pm, join us as we feature a variety of live entertainment
Dundarave Festival of Lights
When: December 1st, 2018 – December 22nd, 2018
Where: Dundarave Park, West Vancouver
The annual Dundarave Festival of Lights kicks off with a Christmas tree decorating beach party on December 1. On the four Saturdays leading up to Christmas, stop by for an afternoon of free concerts to spark your Christmas spirit. The official lighting of the Festival’s Christmas tree forest takes place at dusk. The Christmas trees will remain on display until after the New year. Enjoy a festive afternoon of free concerts in the Festival’s Longhouse and the Dundarave Nativity Pavilion. The magic happens at dusk with the official lighting of the Festival’s Christmas tree forest. Psst… there are rumours of a visitor from Whoville, rare sightings of the Grinch Who Saved Christmas. Keep an eye out for him in Dundarave.
Carol Ships Shoreside Celebration
When: December 15th, 2018 from 7:30-9 pm
Where: Panorama Park, North Vancouver
Visit the shores of beautiful Deep Cove this holiday season where we’ll be gathering in Panorama Park to watch the Carol Ships sail by. Enjoy a warm and festive evening filled with musical entertainment, roving performers, free craft workshops, a blazing bonfire and beautiful lights. Santa himself may even stop by!
In support of the Harvest Project and Family Services please bring donations of food or unwrapped gifts. Some of the most needed items include gifts for teen girls and boys, canned foods, condiments, rice, pasta, toiletries and diapers. Let’s spread a little cheer across our North Vancouver community.
